Students Transitioning and Achieving Real Success (STARS) is a program in Paterson, New Jersey, for public high school students in grades 9 through 12. It helps them get ready for life after high school. STARS started in September 2000 to help high school students with disabilities get ready for work and become more independent. The program only has about 80–100 students, and there are only about 6 students for every teacher. This means that teachers can focus on each student. STARS focuses on Community-Based Instruction (CBI) and the Structured Learning Experience (SLE) program, especially for "Super Senior" students who have finished their graduation requirements and need extra help with the transition. Students learn skills that will help them in their jobs and in the real world. The student body has a lot of students from minority groups, which is a good sign of the Paterson community. Each student may have to take standardized tests like the SAT or ACT. The government pays for STARS, which is a great way to help people get ready for work, learn how to live on their own, and move to a new place.
