Tucked away on Ocean Avenue in the North Middletown section of the township, Ocean Avenue Elementary feels more like a neighborhood landmark than a big, anonymous building. You’ll find morning drop-offs where neighbors chat, teachers greeting children by name, and siblings from different grades passing each other in the halls with familiar waves. It’s the kind of place where many families say the school knows their children. The school serves around 278 students in grades Pre-K through 5, and the student-teacher ratio is very low, approximately 10:1.That size and ratio allow educators to pick up on the small details: who’s struggling a little in class, who’s ready for extra help, and who has a spark that needs kindling.
Academically, the numbers tell a mixed story. According to recent data, about 42 % of students are achieving proficiency in math and roughly 57 % in reading. Compared with other elementary schools in the same district — for example, districts where proficiency might be higher, Ocean Avenue often ranks below the top tier, but the school also shows steady commitment to improvement. The fact that the ratio is lower and class size smaller gives it potential for growth that many families appreciate. Housing in the Ocean Avenue zone reflects the area’s appeal. North Middletown offers a quieter lifestyle, access to local amenities, and draws families looking for stable community roots. According to area data, median household income and rent levels are above many regional averages for instance, the median rent in this subdivision is reported around US $2,095 per month. That rental figure gives an idea of what families are willing to invest to live in the school’s catchment.
As for alumni, there’s no headline-making celebrity past pupil listed publicly, but the legacy is strong in other ways. Many former students stay nearby, return as volunteers or staff, and raise their own children in the same community. That kind of continuity means the school doesn’t just educate children it becomes part of family history.
New Playground Name
We are so excited to announce the name of our new playground! Following a school-wide and Robinson community vote we narrowed a large list of names down to four. Since our students will be using the playground on a daily basis, we gave them the final vote! 476.....

Being Updated
In October 2025, Ocean Avenue Elementary ran its “Global Cultures Week.” Classrooms took on different countries, students brought family stories and recipes, and the gym turned into a small international fair of flags, traditions and curiosity. Families were invited in, and for one week the school felt like it doubled as a community center and cultural hub.
1. What’s the everyday environment like?
A. Friendly and familiar. Because class sizes are smaller, teachers often know students beyond academics — their interests, their struggles, their strengths.
2. How are parents involved?
A. Quite actively. From volunteering in reading groups to attending cultural events and classroom support roles, families regularly engage with the school.
3. What kinds of enrichment or creative activities happen?
A. You’ll find project-weeks, culture fairs (like the one in October), art displays, reading partner programmes and other activities that bring learning alive.
4. How does the school help students who may be behind?
A. With its low student-teacher ratio, the school can tailor more small-group help or peer-support sessions for students who need extra time to catch up.
5. What do families like most about Ocean Avenue?
A. The sense of belonging. Many say their child isn’t just part of a large system they’re known, noticed, valued. That feeling of connection matters more than many test scores.
