Absence continues to be a significant challenge in Camden's schools, including Veterans Memorial: the district as a whole is stating that chronic absenteeism continues to have teacher affective and student outcomes.
A local nonprofit organization, in conjunction with the school, is helping to provide food support for families, representing the community-school vision at Veterans Memorial.
Several years ago the school was in danger of closing which led community members to act and protest..., further demonstrating how the community perceives the school as an important part of the neighborhood.
Q1. How do families receive information on student progress and grades?
Ans. Parents receive progress reports once halfway through the school year. Furthermore, the school issues a report card every quarter. Also, parents can check the student progress number online.
Q2. What technology resources are available in the classroom?
Ans. Teachers use a Chromebook, Google Classroom, and interactive whiteboards to support their students with the digital learning style.
Q3. When does the school year begin and end?
Ans. The school year begins the first week of September and ends the last week of June according to the Camden City School District calendar.
Q4. What is the average class size?
Ans. Class size usually ranges from 15-20 students so the teacher can provided differentiated instruction.
Q5. Are there gifted and talented programs?
Ans. Yes, students who are showing ability levels and advanced skills are eligible to participate in enrichment projects, STEM challenges, and leadership.
