Mastery Schools of Camden is a network of free public Renaissance schools for grades K-12 in Camden, New Jersey. With over 2,800 students and an average student-teacher ratio of 14:1, Mastery's mission is to ensure every student develops the academic and personal skills necessary to be successful in postsecondary education. On August 28, 2025, the network shared the appointment of a new principal at Mastery High School of Camden, Maurice Towns, who wants to change workforce-development pathways so students can graduate with jobs with benefits and a livable wage.

On May 6, 2025, the school unveiled a new biology classroom with a hydroponics lab and a vertical farming system as part of their effort to expand student opportunities and strengthen real-world science learning.

About four months ago, the wider Mastery Schools network (that includes the Camden and Philadelphia campuses) reported that a ransomware incident compromised the private information of over 37,000 individuals.

Q1. What is the process for admission?

Ans. Anyone living in Camden is eligible to apply. Families submit online applications to the One Camden enrollment portal. There are no tests or tuition.

Q2. What are the start and end dates for the school year?

Ans. The school year begins in early August and ends in late June. Schools are provided an extended calendar to allow more time for learning.

Q3. Are there technology/Chromebook programs?

Ans. Yes. Every student receives a Chromebook or tablet for use in class and for remote learning. Internet access is provided to families in need of assistance.

Q4. Are there college and career readiness programs?

Ans. Yes. High school students engage in career-connected learning, dual enrollment, and college counseling to promote students’ success in the next stage of life.

Q5. What extracurricular programs are offered?

Ans. Mastery offers a variety of clubs, arts, and athletic programs. Sports offered include flag football, basketball, cheer, and robotics, plus student council.
