Cottonwood Elementary School’s fourth-grade students participated in Creighton University’s “mini medical school” event in October 2025. The program introduced students to healthcare careers through hands-on activities and demonstrations.
Q1. In what ways does Cottonwood help kids learn to write?
Ans. Teachers use handwriting routines that are in line with the district's standards and focus on proper letter formation, spacing, and posture when writing.
Q2. What does the school do to help students learn about how science changes with the seasons?
Ans. As part of their science units, students monitor the weather, observe changes in the environment, and discuss how the seasons impact various aspects of life.
Q3. What do students do in class to help them get organized?
Ans. Cottonwood teaches kids how to be responsible by using labeled storage, daily cleanup times, and structured ways to manage materials.
Q4. How does the school help kids read quickly?
Ans. Students do guided reading, practice reading the same thing over and over, and do fluency activities that are appropriate for their grade level and fit with the OPS literacy curriculum.
Q5. In what ways do students learn to be polite when they are with other people?
Ans. Teachers help students take turns, make decisions together, and work together in small groups to encourage good communication between peers.
