Carl A. Swanson Elementary School was recently recognized as a National Blue Ribbon School by the U.S. Department of Education. The honor highlights the school’s strong overall academic performance.
Q1. What does Swanson Elementary do to help students learn STEM subjects?
Ans. Students do STEM activities that are in line with OPS, such as engineering tasks, problem-solving challenges, and science lessons that are based on questions.

Ans. Teachers use OPS literacy practices like explicit vocabulary instruction, visual aids, and learning words in context.
Q3. What kinds of structured routines help students cope with changes?
Ans. Swanson uses predictable movement cues, posted schedules, and classroom signals to help students move quickly from one activity to the next.
Q4. How does Swanson help people learn about and understand other cultures?
Ans. The OPS curriculum has social studies units for each grade level that look at community roles, traditions, and different points of view.
Q5. What does the school do to help kids use technology safely?
Ans. Students learn what the district expects of them in terms of digital citizenship, such as how to use devices responsibly, how to care for passwords, and how to behave safely online.
