The North Carolina Charter School Review Board has approved Longleaf School of the Arts to open an online remote academy. The virtual program will start with a capped enrollment of 25 ninth graders and 25 tenth graders. School leaders created the remote academy to expand educational access using a virtual learning model. The approval brings a new online instruction option to North Carolina’s charter school sector.
Q1. What makes Longleaf School of the Arts different from a traditional high school?
Ans. Longleaf School of the Arts combines conservatory-level arts training with college-preparatory academics.
Q2. Which artistic disciplines can students study?
Ans. Dance, theater, visual arts, vocal music, instrumental music and cinematic arts are the programs offered.
Q3. How are academics balanced with arts instruction?
Ans. Students continue in a full academic program but devote considerable time to rehearsal, performance, portfolio work and artistic development.
Q4. What role do performances play at Longleaf?
Ans. Stage productions, concerts, showcases, and exhibitions are central parts of the school year.
Q5. Who is often drawn to Longleaf School of the Arts?
Ans. Students often select the school who want an intensive arts education in addition to a college preparatory education.
