Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools (CMS) is second-largest district of North Carolina, enrolling roughly 148,000 students across 186 schools, including 102 elementary campuses, and representing 175 countries with 209 spoken languages in 2024–25. During the 2023–24 academic year, about 53% of CMS students scored proficient on statewide reading and math exams, slightly below the state average of 54%, yet showing steady post-pandemic gains.
