Everyone at Casey Elementary School in Jackson, Mississippi, is buzzing with excitement! Jerry Jenkins, a well-known djembe master, recently visited the school and taught the students about West African history, rhythm, and culture. The Mississippi Symphony Orchestra also put on an amazing show for the 4th and 5th graders, who learned about the brass family and heard songs they knew from when they were kids.

The school also had guest artists from Mali and Guinea who played the ancient balafon and shared stories, rhythms, and cultural knowledge. Mr. Carroll McLaughlin, the school's music teacher, was also named "The Jackie" Musician of the Year at the 47th Annual Mississippi Gospel Music Awards. This shows how much the school cares about arts education.
