Lake Harriet Upper Elementary serves grades 3-5 in the heart of the Fulton neighborhood in Southwest Minneapolis. Led by Principal Walter Schleisman, it is part of Minneapolis Public Schools and emphasizes inclusive, anti-racist education. The school offers rigorous core academics, differentiated learning styles, and a Telescoped Math pathway for 4th and 5th graders. Students participate in Visual Arts, Music, Physical Education, and the MicroSociety program. Strong support is provided via Special Education (including cognitive/developmental programs), English Learner services, and family-community engagement. The campus works jointly with its K-2 counterpart (Lake Harriet Lower Elementary) to build knowledge foundations and ease transitions. A focus on academic rigor, social responsibility, and arts integration defines its approach.
