1. What distinguishes the learning environment at North Shore?

Ans. The learning environment is based on an Environmentally Integrated Curriculum that involves outdoor classrooms, school forest, nature trails, and equipment for use in learning, including skis, skates, and snowshoes.

2. Where and when can one apply/enroll at North Shore?

Ans. Kindergarten through 6th grade enrollment applications are due by March 1 for first consideration and, if there are still seats available, a lottery is held if applications exceed available seats. A student must be 5 years old by September 1.

3. Do students receive specialist courses?

Ans. Yes—students receive instruction in art, music, PE, and environmental/ stewardship education. Band instruction begins in 5th-6th grade.

4. Is there transportation for students that live farther away?

Ans. Yes. Free busing is provided from Duluth and Two Harbors to North Shore.

5. How does North Shore encourage family involvement and communication?

Ans. They use newsletters, parent-teacher conferences, volunteer opportunities, and updates to the calendar to involve families.
