Hoover Elementary School is a public elementary school serving grades K–5 and is part of the Anoka-Hennepin School District. Recent data indicate an enrollment of approximately 450–475 students, with a student-teacher ratio of about 12:1 to 16:1 depending on the source. Academic programming at Hoover emphasizes a thematic focus in biomedical science, health sciences, and engineering, reflecting its identification as a magnet offering in those areas. The student population is notably diverse: roughly 47–50% of students are from minority backgrounds (including Black, Asian, and Hispanic), and the remainder are White, with approximately half of students eligible for free or reduced-price lunch. In state assessment data, about 62 % of students at Hoover were proficient in mathematics and about 60 % in reading/English language arts, both above statewide averages of approximately 46 % (math) and 51 % (reading) for Minnesota. The most recently reported spending per pupil is around US $16,000. Locally, the Coon Rapids community is suburban in nature, with median home prices in the mid-$300,000 range, and the school carries a reputation for fostering STEM-oriented opportunities. In summary, Hoover Elementary shows strengths in student proficiency and instructional focus, while areas of promise include continuing to close achievement gaps and sustaining support for its diverse learners.
