With about 491 students and a student–teacher ratio of about 19:1, Winchell Elementary (PK–5) is the best elementary school and has about 26 full-time teachers, according to NCES. It has fairly good state scores, with about 52% of students being proficient at math and 63% being proficient at reading. This makes it one of the best elementary schools in the district. The school's minority enrollment and mix of students reflect the city's diversity. Nearby schools like Prairie Ridge and Edison have much lower math scores (about 25% and 5%, respectively), so Winchell stands out academically. Top School in Michigan
