About The James and Grace Lee Boggs School

The Boggs School is one of many charter elementary schools in Michigan, which is unique among community schools throughout Detroit. The Boggs School offers an educational experience for students up through eighth grade to essentially around 150 students with a 14:1 student-teacher ratio. The Boggs School is particularly focused on social responsibility, thoughtful inquiry, and civic engagement when it avoids teaching to standardized tests. While the measure of outcomes related to academic proficiency are well underway, the Boggs School carries a commitment to growth, community engagement, and support for educators. Engagement with community and the Boggs Schools' minority enrollment is roughly 77% with the majority of our students' economically-disadvantaged, with a real focus on equity and inclusion. In general, the Boggs School is focused on citizen engagement that underscored our continued presence at one of Michigan's most fulfilling Elementary Schools.
