Wells High School is the main public high school for students in grades 9 through 12 in the Wells-Ogunquit Community School District. It is also known as a top school. The school has about 420 students and a student-to-teacher ratio of about 11:1. It is one of the best schools for personalized instruction and getting ready for college. The school has a full curriculum with a wide range of electives that are meant to help students grow both academically and personally, and it is one of the best high school in Maine. There are 8% of students who are minorities and 13% who are economically disadvantaged. The performance data shows steady progress, with 61% of students being proficient in reading and 51% in math. The school sets up SAT and ACT tests for its students to help them reach their goals after high school. The campus is in a coastal town known for its high educational standards, and it costs about $19,000 per student to run. Wells High School is one of the best schools in Maine. It is known for being a friendly place and for getting students ready for success in the future.

Wells High School recently honored its varsity boys' basketball team for beating a rival team from the region in early February 2026. The score was 47 to 40. The school is still working on its promise to offer specialized learning through its new "Maine Advanced Building," which has technology-rich collaborative spaces and a curriculum based on proficiency. Students are also learning about the his to ry of their own community through a new research project that looks in to the cultural heritage and his to rical s to ries of the Wells and Ogunquit areas.
