About 378 students go to the school, which serves grades Pre-K through 5. The ratio of students to teachers is 15:1, which is a little better than the average for the district. Sorgho Elementary has 25 full-time teachers and one full-time school counselor who help students grow both academically and socially and emotionally. Recent test results show that 52% of students did well enough in math to be considered proficient, while 47% did well enough in reading and English language arts to be considered proficient. There are almost as many boys as girls in the student body, with 49% being girls and 51% being boys. About 64% of the students come from low-income families, and the school is a friendly and welcoming place that reflects the diversity of its community. Sorgho Elementary School has a strong basic curriculum that focuses on developing leaders and teaching students to be responsible through programs like "Leader in Me." People in the Owensboro area know this school for its calm and helpful environment, above of the average academic results, and dedication to helping students to become confident and capable in future.

Sorgho Elementary School has been recognized as one the leader and ranked in the state. Sorgho Elementary School in Owensboro, Kentucky, has been in the news a lot lately for both its academic success and its ability to lead. The school was officially named a "Legacy School" recently due to the Leader in Me program. This is a rare honor for schools in the state. This award shows how much Sorgho cares about teaching kids skills that will help them succeed for the rest of their lives, like leadership, responsibility, and personal growth. In addition to this success, Sorgho Elementary School was ranked #206 among Kentucky Elementary Schools in the 2026 U.S. News & World Report rankings. This ranking is based on how well the school did on state-required tests, how well students did, and how ready they are for the next level of school. The award shows that Sorgho is still working hard to find a balance between strong academics and teaching leadership and character. These achievements show that Sorgho Elementary School is becoming known for its high standards in both academic achievement and overall student growth.
