Being Updated
In the latest news about Dunn Elementary School in Louisville, Kentucky:
Dunn Elementary is making a big change: starting in the 2024–25 school year, they will no longer have formal physical education (PE) classes.Instead, they will give students an extra 30 minutes of recess instead of PE classes. This change is part of a larger trend in the Jefferson County Public Schools district, where many schools are rethinking how to give students chances to be active. Instead of scheduled gym classes, they are often moving toward more informal play and movement that happens more often. The school spokesperson said that the change is meant to give students more freedom and maybe more time to play. However, they stressed that structured physical activity is still a priority in other ways.As the new model is put into place, both parents and staff will be keeping an eye on how it affects student engagement, health, and the day-to-day logistics of scheduling and supervision.
