The school will hire Patrice Burlew as its new principal recently, as part of a major change in leadership. Burlew has been working in education in the district for more than 16 years. Her most recent job was as the assistant principal at Veterans Park Elementary School. Chelsea Barrow, the current principal, is leaving. The school district stressed that Burlew's teaching experience, dedication to fairness, and collaborative leadership style make her a great choice to lead the school community into its next chapter. The mayor of the city and the district superintendent both came to the school to say hello to the kids. The focus of first-day ceremony which held, was on new programs, like a create rule that limits how much students can use their cell phones during class and the introduction of new technology that lets parents keep an eye on their kids' buses.
