Being Updated
In late September 2025, the Kentucky Department of Education (KDE) gave Rich Pond Elementary its "Lead By Letting Go! Building Systems of Shared Leadership" award. This was one of only 13 schools or districts in the state to get this honor. The award shows that Rich Pond is dedicated to building a culture of cooperation, where everyone, including teachers, staff, and students, can be a leader. Principal Derick Marr said that the award was given because the school values open communication and gives all team members a chance to have a say in how things are done every day. Teachers at the school said that the environment encourages students to take on leadership roles early, which helps them become more responsible and independent. This award not only shows how well the school has done in creating a culture of leadership, but it also shows that there may be more work to be done to improve the school as a whole. While academic metrics are still a big deal, this award will help strengthen internal systems, which may lead to better student performance and a better school climate in the future.
