Being Updated
The Vogel Elementary PTA just started a new program called "Reading Buddies." It pairs older students with kindergartners for one-on-one reading sessions every week. The goal of the program was to improve early reading skills and make friends across grades. School staff said that the first month went well: kindergartners said they felt more confident, and older students liked being in charge. The school library got new sets of books to help the program, and the media center held two family-reading nights. School leaders want the program to be a permanent part of Vogel's school year, and they invite everyone in the community to come to the next family-reading event.
