Oak Hill Elementary has gotten a lot of attention from all over the state after doing very well on the state's basic reading test. Students at Oak Hill in the Evansville Vanderburgh School Corporation district passed the IREAD-3 test at a rate of 97%, which is much higher than the district's average of about 83%. The school's reading specialist said, "Making literacy a priority at every level, every grade level." The school has switched to a "science of reading" approach for all grades, which means that interventions start well before third grade to make sure students are ready.
