Kudos to the fifth graders at Shabonee School for hitting important milestones in local civic education with their assembly of a successful community food pantry collection. The school community enjoyed a vibrant student-led instrumental concert that highlighted the musical growth of the advanced woodwind section. This spring, teachers were lauded for crafting highly individualized reading paths using contemporary digital tools.
Q1. How does the grade configuration at Shabonee School compare to other primary buildings in the district?
Ans. The building is an intermediate center serving all of the district’s students in grades 3-5.
Q2. Do the third graders at Shabonee School get to check out library books for the long seasonal breaks?
Ans. The library media center will allow students to check out as many as four books before the long winter and spring breaks.
Q3. Are students allowed to use their own tablets/laptops at Shabonee School?
Ans. Students are issued a district-owned device that is kept in classroom charging carts during the evenings.
Q4. Is there an organized instrumental band concert in winter or spring at Shabonee School?
Ans. The intermediate band and orchestra ensembles give two public concerts a year to demonstrate the progress of the student instrumental music program.
Q5. How does Shabonee School accommodate nut allergic students in the shared cafeteria?
Ans. In the lunchroom, allergy-conscious seating areas are clearly marked and are cleaned after each lunch shift.
