Marion, a city in southern Illinois in Williamson County, is near 17,000 in population. The community is known for regional shopping, health care access, local parks, neighborhoods and proximity to Crab Orchard National Wildlife Refuge. Marion provides families a small city lifestyle with services, affordability and access to nearby Carbondale and other southern Illinois communities.
Marion Community Unit School District 2 is the primary provider of elementary education in Marion, but private schools and public schools in nearby towns also exist. The district has seven buildings and serves over 4,000 students with programs in core academics, fine and applied arts, vocational learning, student support and extracurricular activities. Marion is still a viable option for elementary education, with available housing and community resources.
