Forest Elementary, a K–5 school, is the best elementary school in the neighborhood that usually has 657 students and a student–teacher ratio of about 12:1. About 37% of people are proficient at math, and 37% are good at reading. There are 47% female students and 53% male students in the school. 44% of the students at the school are from low-income families. There are 56 full-time teachers who are the same. Rentals with three bedrooms in nearby Kalamazoo neighborhoods usually cost between $1,200 and $1,800 a month. Students usually go to Kalamazoo high schools like Kalamazoo Central or Loy Norrix, which have produced famous alumni like Derek Jeter and Greg Jennings. When it comes to math and reading, Forest is in the middle of the district, so families often look at tutoring or school intervention options before enrolling.
