Being Updated
Garvy J Elementary School recently held its annual multicultural fair, a tradition that’s been going on for years to celebrate its students’ and families’ different heritage with food, music and art. The event highlighted the school’s dedication to building a supportive community and strengthening school-family relationships. “The fair is an important part of the school’s inclusive culture and academic vision,” Principal Stephanie Bester said.
Q1. How do you motivate kids to read more?
Ans. We run a structured quarterly program that totally rewards students with fun prizes for hitting specific book count milestones!
Q2. Do you have a chess club?
Ans. Yeah, we coordinate a really active after-school chess club that even competes in regional citywide championship matches together.
Q3. What kind of outdoor play areas do you have?
Ans. We feature a modern, safe rubberized playground surface right next to huge turf fields for soccer and active recess.
Q4. How do you help new students feel welcome?
Ans. We honestly pair all of our new students with trained student ambassadors to help them navigate the school and socialize.
Q5. Is there a place to swap school uniforms?
Ans. Yes! Our amazing parent association runs a free, donation-based uniform exchange closet that is open every single Friday morning.
