Recently, George W. Curtis Elementary School launched an innovative series of after-school workshops in digital literacy and coding for upper elementary students. The school also hosted a successful community health and wellness fair that brought together local families and health care partners to promote healthy lifestyles in the Roseland neighborhood. Staff and students continue to work toward their literacy growth goals with a new incentive based reading program.
Q1. What are some of the positive behavior intervention strategies that Curtis Elem School implements on a daily basis?
Ans. Curtis Elem School has a schoolwide token economy system in place to encourage positive behaviors, cooperation and academic excellence on a daily basis.
Q2. How does Curtis Elem School make sure the campus is safe to get to during normal arrival times?
Ans. Curtis Elem School has a single-point entry protocol that is staffed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week by trained campus security personnel and administrative teams.
Q3. Are there older students at Curtis Elem School in active conflict resolution peer programs?
Ans. Yes, Curtis Elem School trains some eighth graders to be peer mentors to help resolve playground disputes peacefully during recess.
Q4. What is the social emotional learning curriculum in the classrooms at Curtis Elem School?
Ans. Curtis Elem School has daily Second Step lessons throughout the school teaching empathy, emotional regulation and constructive problem-solving skills.
Q5. Curtis Elem School celebrates multicultural heritage all yearlong?
Ans. Curtis Elem School organizes several cultural assemblies and food festivals throughout the year which highlight the diverse background of the student population.
