This summer, NExA was happy to see the return of a popular community program: free, healthy meals for kids. Eat Smart Idaho and the Southwest Foodservice Excellence (SFE) team brought fun and healthy eating to the program. On a sunny Wednesday lunch, students tried a variety of corn-based foods, such as baby corn, corn muffins, popcorn, corn chips, and corn salsa. The event turned the cafeteria into a busy place where people could taste and learn new things. The kids talked to the chef, asked questions about new foods, and heard fun corn facts. The staff and volunteers worked hard to make healthy eating fun by turning a simple summer meal into a mini-celebration of community, flavor, and health.
