The Ames Community School District (which includes Mitchell Elementary) recently approved a pilot program to introduce new phonics-based literacy materials from 95% Group for elementary students starting in 2025 — potentially impacting early reading instruction across the district.
The district also talked about improvements to its infrastructure. As part of a plan for the whole district, playgrounds will be replaced and upgraded soon. Mitchell Elementary is one of the schools that will get these improvements this summer.

Ans. Mitchell Elementary is known for its high rates of academic success, helpful staff, and great programs for getting the community involved.
Q2. Does the school offer individualized instruction for students who need it?
Ans. Yes, the school offers Title I services, special education, and ELL programs to help each student in their own way.
Q3. Are there programs for advanced or extra learning?
Ans. Yes, students can take part in enrichment activities, STEM activities, and classroom extensions that are meant to push high-achieving students to do better.
Q4: What does the school do to help students learn social and emotional skills?
Ans. Mitchell uses SEL programs to teach kids how to control their emotions, deal with conflict, and behave well.
Q5. Do Mitchell Elementary students get rides to and from school?
Ans. Students who meet certain requirements can take the bus along routes that have been approved by the district.
