A new firehouse is planned for city-owned land next to Rotella Interdistrict Magnet School, which will be good for the school. In October 2025, officials in Waterbury said they would build a new Fire Station 5 next to the school to replace the old one, which was almost 100 years old. The site could also host a Fire Explorers youth program in partnership with the school, which would give students a chance to learn about firefighting careers firsthand.
