Being Updated
Concord Magnet School recently held its annual produce market outside in the courtyard of its new campus, which it moved to in August. First graders played the roles of sellers, baggers, cashiers, and tally-keepers. They learned real-world math and business skills while also encouraging healthy eating.
Q1. How does Concord Magnet use the arts in its lessons every day?
Ans. The school uses an arts-integrated model, which means that math, reading, and science are taught along with dance, music, theater, and visual arts. This makes learning more fun.
Q2. Do buses take magnet students all over Norwalk?
Ans. Yes, Norwalk Public Schools provides transportation for magnet students throughout the district along certain bus routes.
Q3. What do students need to do to get into Concord Magnet?
Ans. A lottery system in each district decides who gets in, so that all families in Norwalk have the same chance.
Q4. Does the school help students who are learning English as a second language (ELL)?
Ans. Concord offers ELL instruction, support in many languages, and small-group interventions that are tailored to each student's needs.
Q5. Can middle school students be leaders or learn more?
Ans. Students in grades 6–8 can join clubs for the arts, STEM activities, and community service projects. They can also join student leadership groups. These activities teach them how to be creative and responsible.
