About Clinton Avenue School

New Haven, Connecticut's Clinton Avenue School is a public school for grades K–8. There are about 450–460 students and about 12 teachers for every student. The school puts a lot of weight on teaching two languages, especially English and Spanish. It also uses technology and hands-on, inquiry-based learning to make the classroom a place where everyone works together and responds. The school has a wide range of students. About 83% of them are Hispanic, 10% are Black, and the rest are White, multiracial, or Asian. Most of the students come from low-income families because about 78% of them can get lunch for free or at a lower price. On state tests, only about 11% of students are good at math and 22% are good at English Language Arts. The school has spent more money on each student in the past few years, reaching about US$19,400 per student. This information is available to the public. This means that a lot of money has been spent on each student. People in the Fair Haven area like Clinton Avenue School because it has a strong community and tries to meet the needs of its students in terms of language and culture. In short, Clinton Avenue School is a good school because it has programs that are good for kids from different cultures, classrooms that are full of technology, and a promise to be fair. But it has a hard time raising the level of academic success.
