Being Updated
At the May 2025 meeting of the New Britain School Board, district leaders shared good news: Jefferson Elementary's early-grade reading scores have gotten better. The number of students in the "emergency reading" category has gone down, and more than 52% of students are now good readers. The school also saw a big drop in office referrals, which the principal says is because they hired a social worker in late 2024 and made social-emotional learning practices stronger.
Q1. Are there after-school programs at Jefferson Elementary?
Ans. Yes, the school offers a variety of after-school enrichment programs, such as arts, STEM activities, and help with homework, depending on what the district has available.
Q2. What does the school do to help students with special needs?
Ans. Jefferson provides individualized education plans (IEPs), resource room support, and related services like speech therapy to help each student learn in the way that works best for them.
Q3. Are there programs for people who are learning English?
Ans. Yes, Jefferson offers focused ELL instruction and small-group help to help students get better at reading, writing, and speaking English.
Q4: What can parents do to help with school activities?
Ans. Families are encouraged to get involved through the Parent-Teacher Organization (PTO), school events, conferences, and chances to volunteer in classrooms and school programs.
5. What safety measures are in place at Jefferson Elementary?
Ans. To keep students safe, the school has secure entrances, does safety drills on a regular basis, has staff watch over students when they arrive and leave, and follows safety rules that apply to all schools in the district.
