Ranked 159 of 200 in Connecticut
See top schools in BridgeportHall School is a public elementary school in Bridgeport, Connecticut. It has about 175 students in pre-kindergarten through grade 6. The student-teacher ratio is about 10:1, which is low compared to many public schools. There are about 17 classroom teachers. Hall School has a very diverse student body, with about 95% of students coming from minority backgrounds, mostly Black and Hispanic. A lot of students are eligible for free or reduced-price lunch, which shows that the school is in a community with a lot of needs. Hall School has problems in the classroom. State tests show that only 5% of students are good at math and about 17% are good at English Language Arts. These levels of proficiency put the school in the lower half of all public schools in Connecticut. Even so, the school is better off because the classes are small and the students and teachers get along well. There aren't any public budget breakdowns for Hall School, but estimates say that the Bridgeport district spends a lot of money per student. People in the area see the school as part of a community that is dedicated but lacks resources.

Being Updated
The Bridgeport school board has given the go-ahead for a $125 million pre-K–8 school to replace Hall School and two other old schools. Pending state grant money, the new school would be built on the site of the old Harding High School. Officials have said that Hall School is falling apart and that it would be cheaper to build a new one than to fix up the old one. The vote was part of a larger plan for the district's schools that showed that they needed more than $700 million in repairs. District leaders say that the plan, which is expected to take about three to four years, depends on getting state construction funds approved on time. There are also community forums where residents can give their opinions as the proposal moves forward.
