Westminster Academy for International Studies (WAIS), located in Westminster, Colorado, is a tuition-free, public magnet school that encompasses grades Pre-Kindergarten through eighth grade and emphasizes global studies. WAIS offers a curriculum that promotes the teaching of international studies, as well as Spanish and Mandarin, while embracing a true competency-based education model that ensures students learn what they need at their own pace. WAIS's academic performance, based on several indicators, is steadily progressing, evidenced by the fact that its reading data showed reading above expectation prior to COVID, and the school's math scores showed an increase in scores over time across all grade levels. Student families appreciate WAIS's commitment to offsite learning, including opportunities for international travel, social and multicultural programs, and productive parent engagement. WAIS's innovative approach to education and student learning will continue to set it apart as one of the best elementary schools in Colorado.
