Being Updated
Woodland Hills Elementary Charter for Enriched Studies in Woodland Hills has opened its 2026–27 school year lottery for out-of-boundary applicants, with current students being officially notified by the week of March 9, 2026. The school holds the best Elementary Schools badge and ranks #559 in California, with 70% of students proficient in both math and reading. For LAUSD's largest-enrollment Woodland Hills charter campus at 630 students, the annual lottery draw reflects sustained community demand for one of the top-ranked public elementary charter schools in the Woodland Hills CA school district.
Q1. What type of part of the curriculum do you provide at Woodland Hills Elementary Charter for Enriched Studies?
Ans. A large part of the curriculum at Woodland Hills Elementary (WH) includes arts integrated into all core academic areas at all grade levels (e.g., math, science, social studies). The official charter for WH describes that the integration of the arts is essential for the development of motor skills, language skills, social skills, decision-making, risk-taking and creativity. As such, arts instruction is part of the daily curriculum and not a standalone subject area.
Q2. What is the enrollment process for Woodland Hills Elementary (WH) Charter for Enriched Studies?
Ans. WH differs from fully open-enrollment charter schools by serving students that live in the designated LAUSD residential Attendance Zone. Once families whose home school is WH register at www.enroll.lausd.net ( the LAUSD enrollment portal), they will receive an e-mail confirmation and can then choose their child's school. Families living outside of the designated LAUSD residential Attendance Zone who would like to apply to WH will need to submit a lottery-based Application for Choice (Lottery application; for the WH Charter) through www.apply.lausd.net (the LAUSD Choice Application) during the spring annual enrollment period.
Q3. What has been the history of the Woodland Hills? When did it open?
Ans. Woodland Hills Elementary Charter for Enriched Studies has existed since at least the 1920's with archival records from the school's site showing that the campus was built as a two-room bungalow in the Girard Tract section of Woodland Hills. Today the campus serves 630 students and is one of LAUSD's high achieving charter elementary schools with charter renewal documentation supporting consistently high academic performance, including SBAC proficiency rates of over 85% from previous years at the school.
Q4. Does Woodland Hills Elementary Charter offer a GATE program?
Ans. Yes. Woodland Hills Elementary Charter for Enriched Studies has a GATE program as reported by GreatSchools and documented in the LAUSD directory. Students are identified for the program through the standard GATE referral process established by LAUSD and submitting the appropriate assessment for the GATE program. Families who think that their child would qualify can contact their classroom teacher or the school office at (818) 347-9220 to initiate the referral process.
Q5. Why is Woodland Hills Elementary Charter the highest rated boundary-based charter in the area?
Ans. Woodland Hills Elementary Charter is ranked #559 out of all elementary schools in California and higher than Serrania (#1,596); Woodlake (#1,560); Lockhurst (#859); and Calvert (#3,005) in terms of Woodland Hills LAUSD charters. The school had prior year performace of over 70% in both math and reading.
