About Blue Oak Academy

Blue Oak Academy is a public charter school in Visalia, California, in a rural area on the edge of town. It serves students from kindergarten through eighth grade. The school has about 414 students and a student-to-teacher ratio of about 26:1, which is the same as the district average. There are 16 full-time equivalent teachers who help with instruction. Blue Oak Academy focuses on academically accelerated and constructivist learning. Some of the things they do to support this are project-based instruction, individualized learning plans, hands-on science, exposure to Spanish, and arts integration. The goal of these programs is to get students involved and make them think for themselves. There are 50% female and 50% male students, which shows that the school is diverse and reflects the community. Around 40% of students are thought to be poor. According to data from U.S. News, 22% of students are good at math and 32% are good at English language arts, which is below the state average. Blue Oak Academy is known for its unique teaching style and community-focused environment, but its academic results show that there is still room for improvement.
