Ventura Charter School of Arts and Global Education is promoting its unique arts-integrated curriculum to families who are thinking about sending their kids there right now, during its enrollment period. Recently, the school held a Global Awareness assembly to honor community service projects and different cultures. Lisa Meyer, the school's executive director, is inviting everyone in the community to learn about the school's open enrollment options for the next school year.
Q1. Do you have to pay to go to Ventura Charter School?
Ans. Ventura Charter is a public charter school, which means that any student in California can go there for free.
Q2. How does Ventura Charter School decide which students to let in?
Ans. If there are more applications than seats in the classroom, students are chosen at random each spring through a public drawing.
Q3. Is there a certain bus route for students at the school?
Ans. Families are responsible for taking their kids to and from school every day because the school doesn't provide transportation.
Q4. What does the "Global Education" part of the curriculum mean?
Ans. Global education is about learning about other cultures and histories, as well as problems that affect many areas, like social justice, protecting the environment, and more.
Q5. Can students at Ventura Charter play regular competitive sports?
Ans. Even though the school doesn't have a regular athletic department, students can still join sports leagues through local municipal recreation programs or district partner sites.
