Portola Elementary is located on Eagle Street in the eastern part of Ventura at 6700. It has 360 students and serves grades K–5. The student–teacher ratio is 27:1. Math proficiency is 53% and reading proficiency is 54%. The gender mix is 49% female and 51% male. The school is a good place to be, and it encourages students to make steady progress in all subjects and grades. Teachers try to make the school a place where every child feels valued and heard by the adults. The campus is kept neat and tidy so that everyone in the area can use it. Administrative leaders put safety first so that students can concentrate on their work. The school has a set of rules that all students must follow every day to help them stay on track. The outdoor areas are well-kept to make sure they are safe for playing and doing physical education. Staff members act in a very professional way to set a good example for the students. Prices for homes near the school range from $720,000 to $980,000. Parents say that the teachers and parents work well together and that new students have a smooth transition. This school is one of the best elementary schools in California.

Portola Elementary just got some new social-emotional learning (SEL) tools to help students stay healthy and happy during the school day. Principal Robert Sube is in charge of a facilities assessment on campus as part of the district's larger efforts to modernize. The school is getting ready for its Spring Open House, when students will show off their portfolios to the public.
Q1. Is there a Dual Language immersion option at Portola Elementary?
Ans. Portola focuses on a traditional English-only curriculum, but it helps English Language Learners in every grade level in a big way.
Q2. What can I do to help out at the Portola Elementary library?
Ans. Before helping with book circulation or school events, interested volunteers must fill out a district application and get fingerprint clearance.
What is "Friday Spirit Day" at Portola Elementary?
Ans. Every Friday, students and staff are encouraged to wear school colors to show pride in their school and make the campus a better place to be.
Q4. Does Portola have a preschool program on site?
Ans. Portola has a Jumpstart Preschool that offers early childhood education to families in the Ventura Unified school community who meet certain requirements.
Q5. What does Portola do to control how students use their cell phones on campus?
Ans. To keep students from being distracted in class and on the playground, they must keep their cell phones off and in their backpacks all day.
