The school is part of the VUSD School of Choice Lottery, which just ended for the next school year. Recent changes stress how the program can help students who need to graduate in a different way or at a different speed.

Q1. At Homestead, is there a minimum number of meetings that must be held in person?

Ans. Students are required to attend weekly meetings with their designated teacher to discuss their progress and turn in their independent study assignments.

Q2. Can students from Homestead join clubs outside of school at their boundary school?

Ans. Yes, students who are doing independent study can often join sports or clubs at their neighborhood school if they get permission first.

Q3. How do Homestead families get their textbooks and other learning materials?

Ans. During the orientation phase, students can check out curricular materials from the district's main warehouse or the Homestead office.

Q4. Do students in the upper grades at Homestead get a high school diploma?

Ans. Homestead mostly serves students in grades K–8. High school students usually move on to the El Camino High School independent study program.

Q5. What does the parent do in the Homestead learning model?

Ans. Parents help their kids learn by leading lessons every day and making sure they follow the teacher's pacing guide.
