Being Updated
The California Department of Education Director came to Highland Elementary in April 2025 to check on how well its programs for helping students do better in school were working. The school community is still active, and the official school song and fun dance-along sessions led by the administration have been getting a lot of attention lately. Even though the campus will be getting smaller in the future, it is still focused on "Straight from the Ship" open communication to keep families involved.
Q1. Does Highland Elementary participate in the "Box Tops for Education" program?
Ans. The school actively collects physical and digital box tops to earn funds for new library books and playground equipment.
Q2. What is the policy for cell phone use at Highland Elementary?
Ans. Students must keep cell phones turned off and stored in their backpacks throughout the duration of the school day.
Q3. Are there field trips organized for students at Highland Elementary?
Ans. Each grade level typically participates in at least two educational excursions to local museums, parks, or historical sites annually.
Q4. Does Highland Elementary have a full-time nurse on the premises?
Ans. A health aide is on campus daily to assist with medication and minor injuries, while a nurse visits weekly.
Q5. How does Highland Elementary recognize "Student of the Month" achievements?
Ans. Outstanding students are honored during a monthly assembly where they receive a certificate and a small token of appreciation.
