Being Updated
In early 2026, Tree of Life Charter School revealed that their newly-completed multipurpose room, which has been built and awaits final installation of a fire alarm system, will be operational shortly. The multipurpose room is the first significant upgrade to the campus infrastructure in two decades. As a public Montessori school, Tree of Life serves only 89 students who rank among California's top 30% of schools for academic achievement; therefore, the new multipurpose room represents a lasting commitment to the school.
Q1. What is Montessori education? How does Tree of Life Charter apply Montessori education in their school?
Ans. The Montessori education at Tree of Life is based on a combination of a Montessori-style curriculum, a child-led learning experience, and a specially prepared environment for learning that allows students to develop at their optimal pace. The teacher acts as a guide; therefore, the child does not receive time-based instruction, and therefore the Montessori philosophy emphasizes the importance of self-discipline, creativity, and motivation in order to develop academically.
Q2. How does enrollment work at Tree of Life Charter School?
Ans. Tree of Life does not have a formal application process, however, they do hold an annual open enrollment period, usually in January, and all children who meet the age criteria may apply to attend. Selection for placement within the school occurs through a lottery when applications are received for more children than the school has available seats. Families can apply either in person or through the online application on the school website, at 241 Ford Road.
Q3. How can Tree of Life Charter be free when it is Montessori based?
Ans. Yes. Tree of Life is a free public charter school that is funded by the state of California. There are no fees for enrollment and no costs for the included programs. The Montessori model is included in the public school curriculum, making it available to all children regardless of their family's financial resources.
Q4. How long does Tree of Life’s service area cover?
Ans. By offering classes to students from TK through 8th grade on one campus, Tree of Life students can transition from their early childhood education into middle school without having to transfer to another school or district. Upon completing their 8th grade year, most Tree of Life students will go on to Ukiah High School or an alternative Ukiah Unified School District high school option. The TK-8th grade format of Tree of Life provides students and their families with a stable and supportive learning environment throughout a childs' growth and development.
Q5. How has Tree of Life expanded its campus?
Ans. In January 2026, Tree of Life completed the construction of its newest addition, a multipurpose facility, which will serve as a dedicated area for eating lunch, as well as conducting physical education classes. Tree of Life will receive final approval on the installation of its fire alarm system prior to the multipurpose building becoming fully utilized. In January 2026 the school will announce that the multipurpose building represents a significant investment in Tree of Life's physical infrastructure
