Latest News

The significant modifications at Grace Hudson Elementary School (Ukiah Unified School District) will be similar to those being made at two other Ukiah Unified Schools and will include new classrooms, new infrastructure, and enhanced security systems. The funding for these upgraded facilities is part of the Universal Pre-K Expansion project in California. Because Grace Hudson Elementary School serves as the only K to 5 magnet school in a District, the upgrades represent an ongoing financial commitment to the school from the District moving forward.

FAQ

Q1. How does Grace Hudson's designation as a magnet school affect enrollment opportunities?

Ans. Grace Hudson Elementary is a magnet school, meaning that enrollment at this school does not solely depend on where a student lives. All families within the Ukiah Unified School District's boundaries can apply for enrollment, but an availability of slots is required in order for a student to be placed in the magnet school. To learn about applying to become a magnet school student and any lottery or preferential considerations involved in the enrollment process, please contact the enrollment office of Ukiah Unified.

Q2. What languages are offered through the Grace Hudson Language Academy program?

Ans. The Grace Hudson Language Academy is the language based instructional model of the Ukiah Unified School District (USD). Families wishing to learn about language pathways for their children, whether the school has a dual language immersion program or other current options available, should contact the school directly for the latest information.

Q3. What were the consequences of the recent safety incident at Grace Hudson Elementary?

Ans. Grace Hudson Elementary had a security incident on May 4, 2024, when a threat was posted on social media, causing some families to keep their children at home. Ukiah Unified sent letters to all families communicating information regarding the school incident. Ukiah Unified also continued its normal school schedule, following the incident, in order to assure families that the school was safe and followed its safety protocols.

Q4. Is there any ongoing building project for Grace Hudson Elementary?

Ans. Yes, Grace Hudson Elementary is currently under construction as part of a Ukiah School district-wide facilities improvement project that began in 2024-2025. There are three schools in total that are currently under construction. The new construction will add classrooms to the campus, replace the existing infrastructure, and improve the security of the campus.

Q5. How does Grace Hudson communicate with families?

Ans. Grace Hudson uses ParentSquare to communicate with families. ParentSquare is used to send family notifications for announcements, attendance notifications, and individual messages from school and teaching staff. Parents are able to access ParentSquare through the web and/or mobile Application and will be able to register during the first week of the school year.
