Being Updated
Calpella Elementary opened up the 2024–25 school year under a new principal, Sharon Van Patten, former Student Success Coordinator and third-grade teacher at Calpella for 13 years. In addition, the construction of new classrooms and improvements to the campus's infrastructure have begun; construction is part of an overall district-wide initiative to improve facilities. This combination of an experienced new principal and active investment into the campus signifies an active developing school to all families that have children attending Calpella.
Q1. How can you describe Calpella's implementation of PBIS through the state of California? In what ways does PBIS positively impact students?
Ans. Calpella Elementary has been praised by California as having an exemplary implementation of the PBIS framework and how successfully they implement the Positive Behavior Intervention Support Strategies. These strategies offer a safe learning environment for all students to grow and develop as productive members of society. Additionally, strategies assist in setting clear behavioral expectations and rewarding students accordingly to create an overall positive culture within the school.
Q2. Does Calpella Elementary have Transitional Kindergarten (TK)?
Ans. Calpella Elementary currently serves K-4 students. Families with children entering TK should check with the Ukiah Unified School District to see if their children qualify based on their age as the district has specific criteria for TK and find out if there are any openings for the following school year.
Q3. Are there any after-school programs at Calpella Elementary?
Ans. Calpella Elementary participates in ASES (After School Education and Safety) which is provided by the Ukiah Unified School District. Families who have questions about the availability of ASES after-school programs, hours of operation, or enrollment procedures should call Calpella Elementary or go on the Ukiah USD website.
Q4. How Does Calpella Communicate with Students' Families?
Ans. Calpella communicates with students' families using ParentSquare (our main communication tool), where families receive all school announcements (such as your child's attendance) and any messages from teachers via ParentSquare. Parents should create an account at the beginning of each school year to maintain contact.
Q5. Where Will Your Child Go After Completing 4th Grade At Calpella?
Ans. After 4th grade, students go to one of the Ukiah Unified elementary schools and then to Eagle Peak Middle School or Pomolita Middle School before attending Ukiah High School. Families should check with the District Enrollment Office for more information on the exact pathway they will follow.
