McKinley Elementary is a public elementary school in Santa Monica, California and It serves students in grades K–5. The school has about 390 students and a student-teacher ratio of about 20:1 which makes it possible for both group instruction and one-on-one attention. Students at McKinley Elementary come from a wide range of cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds, just like the rest of the Santa Monica community. The school focuses on building strong academic foundations in literacy, math and science while also using arts, technology and group learning strategies in the classroom every day. Teachers often use project-based activities and small-group learning to stress critical thinking and problem-solving. About 59% of students do well enough in math to be considered proficient and about 72% do well enough in reading to be considered proficient. Santa Monica's strong focus on education and community service makes it a good place for local schools to be.
