See top schools in San FranciscoMission Education Center is a public elementary school here in San Francisco, run by the SFUSD. It's for kids from pre-K to 5th grade, but mostly it helps Spanish-speaking kids who just got here get ready for regular classes. Around 90 to 100 kids go there, and there's about 23 students for every teacher, so they get to learn in smaller groups. They focus on English, math, how to get along with others, and basic school stuff. The teachers speak both English and Spanish so they can really help kids learn the language, read, and feel good about themselves before moving on. The numbers show it's tough, with only about 5% being good at math and 25% at reading. That’s because the kids are new and don't stay for long. Mission Education Center also has the ExCEL program for after-school fun, and they help families with workshops and other support. Basically, it’s a caring place that gets these kids ready to do well when they go to other schools in the city.

Being Updated

There weren't enough teachers and helpers in the classrooms, which was a big problem, especially since the new Spanish-immersion Transitional Kindergarten class was getting bigger. The community pushed the school district to hire more teachers and staff for the new students.
