About King-Chavez Primary Academy

King-Chavez Primary Academy, a public charter school here in San Diego, teaches kids from kindergarten to 2nd grade. It's part of the King-Chavez Neighborhood of Schools and really works on getting kids a great start in school. It's not a huge school, and with about 21 students per teacher, they can keep classes consistent and give kids the instruction they need. The school's classes concentrate on getting kids reading early, learning basic math, and growing emotionally and socially. They teach what California wants them to, and they check in often to see how the kids are doing so they can teach them better. The students come from all walks of life around here, with lots of different backgrounds and income levels. According to USA News, about 12% of the students are good at math, and 25% are good at reading, so they’re still trying to catch up to the state average. Because it's a public charter school, they spend about the same amount per student as other charter schools in California.
