About King-Chavez Academy of Excellence

King-Chavez Academy of Excellence is a public charter school in San Diego, California, that teaches elementary school students. The school has a small number of students, which is normal for charter schools in the area. The student-teacher ratio is about 18:1, which allows for more individualized instruction in the classroom. The student body is mostly made up of minorities and people from different economic backgrounds, which is similar to the community around the school. USA News says that about 17% of students are good at math and 32% are good at reading (ELA), which is below the state average for academic performance. As a charter school funded by the government, the amount of money spent on each student is the same as the amount of money spent on California charter schools. Overall, King-Chavez Academy of Excellence has a lot of potential because it has a clear academic mission, small class sizes that help students, and a dedication to getting better all the time.

Latest News

King-Chavez Academy of Excellence in San Diego just got a brand-spankin' new two-story building for the 2025-2026 school year! It’s got cool, modern learning spots to help kids work together, get creative, and really get into learning. Think updated classrooms, learning areas that can change to fit what they need, and even plans to make the sports fields and outside areas bigger as the school grows.

Besides the new building, the school’s pretty happy about some learning partnerships they did with local groups during school breaks. Kids got to move around, learn cool stuff, and hang out in the community when school wasn’t in session. Plus, some student athletes did a great job at a recent cross country meet, showing how much they’ve improved in sports.

Basically, there's been a lot invested in the school in terms of new buildings and experiences for the students at King-Chavez Academy of Excellence.
