Being Updated
The other day, Ericson Elementary went into lockdown because something bad happened nearby. A dog attacked and killed someone at a park close to the school while classes were in session. Police and ambulances showed up to make sure everyone at school was safe. School officials quickly enacted safety protocols to keep students sheltered and informed parents of the situation as authorities worked to resolve it.
The school locked down and kept parents informed as the police dealt with the situation. The dog never came onto school grounds, and things got back to normal once the area was secure.
Neighbors said it was frightening because the park is right next to the school, and many families hang out there. In response, district and school leaders emphasized continued vigilance around campus safety and communication with families. Teachers discussed safety with the kids and told parents that keeping kids safe is their top priority, even when crazy things happen in the area.
