Being Updated
Parents and teachers at Carver Elementary in the Oak Park neighborhood of San Diego are making a lot of noise. They are signing petitions and talking to local leaders to get the US Department of Education and Congress to fully fund the education programs that help students learn and give schools the tools they need. People are mostly worried about making sure that everyone has equal access to a good education. This is especially true for small neighborhood schools like Carver, where families are asking for more funding for classroom aids, technology, and enrichment activities. Carver's work has led local district leaders to look into ways to get more reliable funding and support services so that they can better serve the school community and keep programs that draw students from all over San Diego Unified.
Carver is still pushing for more hands-on learning, like when CBS 8 went to Weather School and the kids learned about real-world weather science.
