Being Updated
Boone???????????????? Elementary School was the talk of the town in the San Diego community after it rolled out a new schoolwide reading initiative aimed at raising literacy achievement at every grade level. As a part of the program, the students are urged to read different types of books through the arranged classroom challenges and community book-giving events.
Teachers have set up theme-reading weeks, invited guest readers for sessions, and reading buddies where older students help younger ones, activities all geared at developing a reading culture and improving the learners' comprehension skills.
School leaders saw the first feedback of the students and families as very positive, and many of them even affirming that the excitement for reading at home has greatly increased. The program is a result of continuous efforts to strengthen academic outcomes and is a perfect fit with the existing classroom instruction.
